What are architectural shingles?

Architectural shingles, also called dimensional or laminated shingles, consist of two or more layers of asphalt-fiberglass material bonded together to create a thicker, more textured appearance. Unlike traditional 3-tab shingles, which are uniform flat pieces cut into three tabs, architectural shingles feature an uneven profile that mimics the look of wood shake, slate, or cedar shake roofing.
